We are experienced

We Have Over 10 Years of Experience in Teaching Music

The Greater Sydney Music Academy has been teaching music to hundreds of students around greater Sydney, from the Hawkesbury to Bankstown areas since 2011.

Music lessons should be enjoyable and fun. If that’s not happening we are not doing our job.

Our teachers are qualified tutors with degrees in Music,  specialising in Performance, Music Technology, Theory and Composition. They also are involved in various ensembles and groups from local orchestras.

The GSMA has also partnered with many schools. Over the years we have helped grow and support the music programs of Arndell Anglican College, Parklea Public School, George’s River Grammar and Christadelphian Heritage College, Sydney.

“Jamie comes with a wealth of experience in education and musical talent. Both of my daughters have been learning piano for a few years and enjoy their classes every week. Jamie makes it fun and enjoyable as well as challenging them to the best of their ability. I highly recommend GSMA to any parent looking for music lessons for their children.”

Can I sit in on my child’s lesson?

Yes we have an open door teaching policy. It is your choice to sit in. However please remember that you are a spectator in the lesson and students need the opportunity to make mistakes. While some students work better with a parent in the room, others may find it distracting.

I don’t have any musical background or abilities, can I still help my child practice?

Yes. Even though you may not have a music background you can always feel free to ask the teacher on how to help your child practice. By helping your child establish a regular practice routine each week to prepare for lessons and being enthusiastic and engaged about the student’s progress you can help create a positive learning environment at home.

How much practice should my child do each week?

There is no magic number for effective practice. Different activities will take different amounts of effort and hard work.We recommend being goal orientated over time orientated. It is beneficial to establish a regular timetabled practice routine each week. This teachers the student valuable organisational skills and self disciple. The more effort you put into something the more benefits you may gain. As we teach the students “Practice Makes Permanent.”

Do we need a guitar or piano at home to take guitar/bass/piano lessons?

Yes. It is ideal for you to have an instrument to have home practice. An electric keyboard or piano can be used for practicing at home. An electric or acoustic guitar/bass is also needed for students. If you would like any advice or recommendations on equipment please feel free to contact us.

Do we need a full drum set to take drum lessons?

No you do not need a full drum set for drum lessons. Students can start by using a practice pad, or even easier just hitting a pillow. A practice pad can be purchased from most music stores and is a rubber pad the size of a small plate priced around $20-$40.

What if my child hates the instrument and wants to quit?

They can try another instrument. Student’s are free to easily switch instruments at any time. However it does take time and effort to develop the basic level of proficiency in any instrument. Please be aware though that 5 weeks written notice is required to terminate lessons permanently.
